Was interested to read how Trump intervened with FIFA to get a red card revoked against Folarin Balogun, a member of the US team. The unbelievable irony is hard to miss.
I wonder if Trump was aware at the time that Balogun is an involuntary "birthright citizen" of the USA, solely because his Nigerian parents had been visiting from their home in the UK, and US airline officials prevented his mother from boarding the return flight home due to concerns about the advanced state of her pregnancy.
Quite apart from my other recent comment, as a Toronto taxpayer I have no objection to subsidizing those who are truly in need in our city.
I definitely *do* object to my city subsidizing grossly-corrupt wallowing-in-filthy-money supranational organizations such as FIFA and the IOC.
A nominal tax on all international and intra-national sports gambling would surely generate an adequate subsidy for all these wallowing piggies, not to mention providing interesting insight into organized crime, money-laundering and tax evasion.
Am I holding my breath? Uh, no. So alas, with few options I will keep on paying more than my fair share of taxes to make up for those who don't.
