I’m Jake, and I’m exhausted.
I’m an escaped and recovering political organizer, a freelance writer and photographer (and now podcaster too), and occasionally people on the radio or television are nice and let me come on their show.
When I’m not writing or taking photos or podcasting, or talking about my writing or photos or podcasting, I occasionally have free time to work on open-source software. You can find some of those projects on my GitHub if that piques your interest.
Here are some of my highlights that aren’t included on this site:
Awarded by Mayor of Toronto and Chief of Police for stopping a gang assault on the TTC - April 2016
Organized March Against OSAP Cuts at Queen’s Park to protest slashed funding for post-secondary schools in Ontario - January 2019
Published op-ed in the National Post on the reactions of Canadian Jews to the Yaroslav Hunka affair - September 2023
Interviewed with Jeremy Appel on the Orchardcast to discuss whether Canada should remain in NATO - May 2024
Paid tribute to my grandfather Howard Miller in the Toronto Star - January 2025
If you want to support my work, not merely what I publish here but also my writing for traditional media, please consider purchasing or gifting a paid subscription.
I’m proud to keep this Substack up without a paywall, but the work I publish here does cost money to research and produce. Any support you are willing to provide is greatly appreciated!
